Ray Rhymes series 10m time trial - Race 18/18

Series leaders Yates and Pete Hutchinson again did battle on a cool, blustery evening for the last event of the 18-race championship.

Hutchinson pipped his rival by 11 seconds, 22.22 to 22.33, but they were both beaten on the night by Tony Costello who put in a superb performance to take the honours in 22.10.

Third place, however, was enough to give the overall title to Yates by a single point.

The evening attracted some 57 riders, including 16 Corinium CC members, one of whom Harriet Guest, riding husband Dan’s TT bike, smashed the second claim lady members' course record with a superb time of 24.57.

Simon James rode well in the poor conditions to lead in the pack in fourth place (25.15) followed by our fastest lady rider, fifth-placed Sarah Gunn in 25.57.

Sarah was followed in by junior Alex Foyn (26.12) who has ridden well all season despite having to take exams.

Next in were: Kevin Lister (26.42); Paul Fuchs (26.44); Stephen Chapman (27.06) and in 10th place came 81-year-old Den Hedges, who cruised elegantly to 28.19.

Dave Miatt, having one of his occasional rides this season, timed at exactly 30 minutes to take 11th spot followed by his wife Marguerite (30.46). Thirteenth spot went to Terry Barry in 31.18 but he looks to have won the handicap series.

It has been a great year with a record number of competitors (81) achieved at a meeting earlier in the season.
