MORE than 100 people aged from four to 68 took part in the recent free angling sessions in the Cotswold Water Park organised by South Cerney Angling Club, as part of the National Fishing Month activities.

Volunteer coaches from the South Cerney AC explained the methods and techniques to the keen beginners, male and female, young and not so young, and very soon they were managing to catch their own fish.

The record catch was made by five-year-old Lacey Bumphrey from South Cerney who landed a 3lb bream, much to her obvious delight.

The event was coordinated by Craig Hunt of SCAC who said: "We had another great angling taster day, with so many happy faces on view, and some who would never have thought about trying fishing.

"The fishing was tricky at times, but everybody seemed to have great time.

"A big thank you to the coaches who helped so many to catch their first ever fish.

"Also thanks to the Cotswold Water Park Trust and its volunteers, for all the help with the event, and to the Angling Trade Association and its supporting partners for the support in providing each participant with equipment to help them get into angling."

Jill Bewley, from the Cotswold Water Park Trust, said: "This free event is always really popular in the summer holidays and this year was no exception.

"Both locals and visitors took part and were able to get a great introduction to fishing – they were even given their own starter kit to take home. It’s great to see so many people trying a new activity here in the Water Park.”
