WILTSHIRE have won the Western Division of the Unicorns Minor Counties Championship for the first time when they beat Shropshire at Whitchurch by four wickets.

They will now play the winners of the Eastern Division, Staffordshire, in a four-day final at South Wilts Cricket Club, Salisbury starting on Sunday, September 7.

In a heavily rain-affected match, Wiltshire were set 272 to win in 30 overs of the second day and all the third.

Further rain meant play could not start until 3.17pm on the final afternoon with Wiltshire still needing 201 in a minimum of 40 overs.

When Michael Coles was out without adding to the score Adam Miles joined Neil Clark and they produced a match-winning partnership of 133. When Miles was out for 44, 68 were still needed and first Ashur Morrison (14) and Clark put on 25 for the fifth wicket and then Tahir Afridi (15no) joined Clark to see Wiltshire home with nine balls to spare as they totalled 272-6.

Clark finished on 126no after playing one of the most outstanding innings for Wiltshire in recent years.
