CHAMPIONS elect Lechlade are determined to secure their first Glos/Wilts title at Warminster on Saturday.

The riverside club currently lead the division by 35 points and now require only 15 points to be sure of the title and gain promotion to the Premier Leagues for the first time in their 128-year history

Lechlade name the same side that beat Chippenham last weekend and captain Joe Breet is confident that his side can continue their current winning run.

“The lads were buzzing at training this week but know we have to be fully focused on Saturday as we have no doubt Warminster will be all out to stop us winning the title on their patch,” said Breet.

Lechlade coach Luke Sellers says this week’s opponents will be no pushover.

“They are on a three-game winning run and moved into fourth place in the table last weekend and they will be out to maintain that form as they look for a top-half finish,” said Sellers.

Desmond Kruger and Pete Hickerton have scored more than 700 runs between them this season and are both capable of causing us problems on their day with the bat and Rory Cullinan and John Powell can do likewise with the ball.”

Lechlade will be looking to their new opening partnership of Sam Burdock and Paul Godding to continue with their recent good form which has seen the pair score just short of 200 runs in the last fortnight.

Breet knows that the Lechlade top and middle order are best able to flourish when a good base has been laid.

“Sam and Paul have done a great job in recent weeks and this has enabled Brad (Dial) to play explosive innings in the last two games,” he said.

“If we can repeat our recent batting performances on Saturday I think we will be celebrating and partying in Lechlade on Saturday night.”
