TWO former Cirencester Golf Club assistant pros have made their own headlines in the past week.
Ryan Dix, who successfully completed his three-year PGA training at The Belfry and University of Birmingham, topped his year so far with a fine win in the Worcestershire PGA Assistant Professional Matchplay Championship.
Former Cirencester member Ryan, who then worked at the club in a professional capacity until last September, is now based The Vale Golf Club near Evesham.
Dix won three matches to get to the final at the Worcestershire Golf Club where he faced a work colleague from the Vale, Harry Thompson.
The match took place on a fine but occasionally showery day and some excellent golf was played before Dix, who had the help of former Challenge Tour player Pete Turner on his bag, won 4&2.
"Harry and I both played some good golf," said Dix. "I had four birdies and was never headed after winning the second hole.
"Pete was excellent with his help over club selection and he kept me calm when I had a little wobble in the middle of the round."
Gareth Bennett, who was associated with Cirencester Golf Club for 22 years as member and then assistant pro, recently completed a solo golf marathon for charity.
Gareth played six full rounds of golf (108 holes) in just over 12 hours, covering 33 miles and taking 78,000 steps.
He is now based at Cottrell Park Golf Club near Cardiff and was raising money for Hafal, the principal organisation in Wales working with people recovering from severe mental illness, their families and carers.
