FORMER Marlborough College student Alessandro Latif bids to extend his narrow two-point lead in the Pro-Am Trophy category of the Blancpain Sprint Series when it resumes in Slovakia this weekend.

Latif, a student at Marlborough until this summer, and German co-driver Marc Basseng – racing their Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra – have posted three top-10 results overall including two wins and two runners-up placings in the Pro-Am category during the opening six races.

“I’m really looking forward to the event and am determined to bounce back from a disappointing brace of races at Zandvoort and extend our championship lead," said Latif.

The 14-corner Automotodróm Slovakia Ring track opened in 2008 and is the longest on the Blancpain Sprint calendar at 3.68-miles. The one-hour feature race takes place on Sunday.

Since last month’s Blancpain race at Zandvoort, Latif had the opportunioty to drive a rare Jaguar D-Type at Silverstone with the aim of racing it at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium next month.
