GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S Ella Hitchman finished ninth at the 2014 FEI Junior European Eventing Championships at Bishop Burton College in Yorkshire.

But there was gold for 17-year-old team member Anna Wilks from Henley-on-Thames in the individual competition.

Hitchman was not selected for the British quartet in the team event but had her score counted GB would have won a medal instead of being pipped for the bronze as she enjoyed a double clear in both the show jumping and the cross country.

Official team members Katie Bleloch had a refusal at Fence 14 and Emily King (daughter of the legendary Mary) was eliminated following a fall at Fence 7 which left her in hospital with an injured pelvis.

Close on 100 horse and rider combinations competed from 16 nations.

The British team finished fourth, missing out on third place by just three penalty points having led after the dressage section.
