SHAUN SIMPSON clinched the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship (MX1 class) in the penultimate round of the series at the Cusses Gorse venue near Amesbury.
The 2013 champion Kristian Whatley delayed Simpson's celebrations by taking the first race of the day but in the second race of the afternoon Simpson clinched his first MX1 British title with a solid race win over runner-up Whatley.
Following his dominant performance in the previous round, Latvia's Matiss Karro scored maximum points at Cusses Gorse to give him a comfortable 39-point cushion in the MX2 standings with the final round six weeks away.
Once again it was the early-season leader Mel Pocock who finished in second overall
In the MXY2 class, it was Josh Gilbert who left the Cusses Gorse event with the championship lead with one round remaining despite being kept off the podium by Liam Knight, Jay Hague and Jason Meara.
The final round of the championship for all three classes takes place at Foxhill, near Swindon on September 21.
