ELSA POOL, from Tetbury, and Caleb Dyer, from Lechlade, found the going tough at the Nike Junior National Tennis Championships which started this week.

Elsa and Caleb had both qualified in the U16s draw at the Nottingham Tennis Centre along with some of the best young players in the country.

Caleb was unlucky enough to run into the in-form No.8 seed Joe Woolley in the opening round and in a tight match just lost out 6-4, 6-3.

Elsa also fell at the first hurdle when going down to Stephanie Booth 6-1, 6-4.

The Nike Junior Tennis Championships are the highest level competition for all juniors and the pinnacle of the summer domestic calendar.

The tournament features more than 250 players across four age groups and is a showcase for British tennis and the best junior talent in the country.

The Nike Junior Nationals have been running for more than 100 years and the illustrious line of past winners include Andy Murray, Heather Watson, Tim Henman, Elena Baltacha, and Anne Keothavong.
