Standish Woodland Chase, 10 miles multi-terrain

Simon improved from seventh 12 months ago to win gold with a time of 1:01.06, three and a half minutes better than last year.

It was a well-deserved victory resulting from lots of hard and consistent training. There were 67 finishers.

Swanage Sprint Triathlon

GETHIN MUSK has been nursing a running injury this season but compensated with his excellent swimming and cycling to finish fourth overall in the Swanage Sprint Triathlon, but that’s only part of the story.

The 750-metre swim was extremely tough in very choppy seas, courtesy of 'Hurricane' Bertha, and the 20km bike and 5km run were completed in thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Gethin’s time was 1:16.41.

There were 65 very wet finishers led home by Naill Laming in 1:13.12.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km park trails

FIVE CAC competitors this week, out of a field of 375, raced on a beautiful summers morning. Tony Shelbourn, despite an age-group win, complained that not enough miles in training and too many BBQ’s resulted in a much slower time. This contrasted with Mark Edwards who ran his second best Parkrun this year.

Barbara Thomas was back in her coveted first age group place and it was good to see one of the club’s juniors' coaches, Andy Powell, escorting daughter Kirsten to an age-group third place.

Results: 1, Nyle Clinton (Swindon Harriers) 15.49; 30, Tony Shelbourn 20.50; 73, Mark Edwards 22.31; 139, Barbara Thomas 25.15; 254, Kirsten Powell 29.17; 255, Andy Powell 29.18.
