Purton 2
North Leigh United 1
NEW Purton manager Justin Miller guided his side to a 2-1 home win over North Leigh United on Saturday in their first game of the season, writes Alan Eastwood.
Purton were 1-0 down at the break and left it late to get the win, netting two goals in the last 10 minutes of a well-attended fixture at the Red House.
The first half was a rather drab affair with neither side creating much.
Purton did force six corners in the first 15 minutes but then found themselves a goal down when Jack Morton headed in a cross from the right on 20 minutes.
In the second d half play improved with both sides going close as Purton gradually got on top.
On 80 minutes, Lee Toomey raced into the box before slipping in Dave Slattery to slam the equaliser.
Three minutes later Slattery almost scored again but hoisted his effort over the bar.
The winning goal arrived on 89 minutes when a Scott Campbell set-piece was headed in by substitute Paul Carson.
