THE penultimate round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship comes to Wiltshire at the spectacular Cusses Gorse circuit near Salisbury on August 10.

The best motocross riders in the country will be battling it out at Cusses Gorse which features an exciting race circuit including a number of large jumps.

The seventh round of the championship will see both Matiss Karro and Mel Pocock fight for the top spot of the MX2 class while in the MX1 class Scotland's Shaun Simpson will be hoping to secure his second British Championship title at Cusses Gorse.

The event also includes the MXY2 class which features the future stars of British motocross.

With two rounds of the 2014 season remaining, Hitachi Construction Machinery KTM UK rider Simpson currently leads the championship by a massive 118 points over reigning champion Kristian Whatley on the MBO Sport ASA Scaffolding Yamaha after Jake Nicholls was ruled out for the rest season following his broken finger at Whitby.

With Nicholls again missing from the action, former double British champion Brad Anderson will be keen to overhaul the seven-point gap and secure third in the standings.

In the MX2 class the battle for the championship lead is much closer between Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Karro and the Hitachi Construction Machinery KTM UK rider Pocock.

Karro secured a 23-point lead in the championship at the previous round but the pair will both have to contend with wildcard rider Max Anstie on the Bike It Cosworth Yamaha.

Bryan MacKenzie on the Pendrich Heights Services Kawasaki currently sits fifth with young Ben Watson just six points behind while Frenchman Steven Lenior will be keen to produce two solid results at the final two rounds and claim his first overall victory in the British championship.

Cusses Gorse also marks the penultimate round of the MXY2 Championship and current points leader Josh Gilbert will be looking to extend his three-point lead over Oliver Osmaston in second, while overall victor of the last round Liam Knight will be hoping to close down the 27-point gap on Gilbert.

The Cusses Gorse circuit provides all-round viewing in a fairly compact area and is easily reached from the A303 at the Countess Roundabout at Amesbury using the postcode SP4 6JW.

Practice starts at 9:30am with the first MX2 Championship race starting at 12:30pm.
