LECHLADE travel to Biddestone this afternoon in what could be a significant weekend for the club.

Victory against fourth-placed Biddestone would see Lechlade extend their current unbeaten run to six games and tighten their grip on the WEPL Glos/Wilts division.

Then, tomorrow, Lechlade visit Frenchay CC for their quarter final match in the Gloucestershire County Cup which they won last year.

Frenchay sit mid-table in the Bristol and Somerset division.

Lechlade captain Joe Breet said: “It’s fair to say that Biddestone’s outside title challenge will be over should they lose to us on Saturday.

“We are in touching distance of the title and a win on Saturday will take us closer so we will need to be on our best form this weekend.

“When we played Biddestone last year in the title run-in we knew a win would as good as hand us the title. In that game we allowed Dwaine Perry to dominate us with the bat and score an unbeaten 144 , denting our title push, so we will need to make sure we don’t allow him to do the same this weekend.”

Breet acknowledges Biddestone are far from a one-man side, however.

“In addition to Perry they have Neil Bredenkamp who is also an accomplished batsman who has constantly been in the division’s top 10 since his arrival at Biddestone two years ago.

“On the bowling front they have Naeem Khan who has taken nearly 300 league wickets in his time at Biddestone and he bowls at his best on his home ground. He’s another potential match winner for them.”

Lechlade name an unchanged side for this weekend’s game so there is still no return for wicket keeper Sam Burdock who has now fully recovered from his thumb injury sustained at Tewkesbury two weeks ago.

Breet is confident that his side will have learned from last year’s experience and will be at their best this weekend.

He added: “We have a strong side and one that includes 11 potential match winners. I am sure we will get the job done this year and gain promotion to the Premier Leagues for the first time in our long history.”

Lechlade travel with a very strong side in defence of the Gloucestershire County Cup tomorrow.

Cup captain Arran Dickinson is looking forward to the game. “It’s another big weekend for the club in our drive for the treble this season.

“These are the sort of big games as club cricketers that we all want to play in and two good wins this weekend in the league and cup will maintain our dreams of adding further silverware to the T20 title won last weekend.”
