The Open is a four-man stableford competition played off ¾ handicap with three scores to count on each hole.

In hot and humid conditions, it was the 'Rhino's from Thornbury – David Lucas, Rod Butler, Rob Lawrence and John Stubbs – who were triumphant on 112 points.

They finished just two ahead of Stone’s Boys (110pts), a home team consisting of past captains Pete Stone and Mark Priest, future captain Nick J Brown and their guest Stuart Whitman.

In third place on countback were ‘Wild West’ from Chipping Sodbury who consisted of Malcolm West, Craig Mayoh, Michael Callaghan and Adam Plummer.

Jubilee Cup

FIFTY ONE players took part the annual 18 hole bogey competition, the Jubilee Cup, and victory went to Scott Hicks who belied his high handicap by producing an excellent score of +7.

Playing off full handicap, a bogey competition pits the player against the course over the entire 18 holes. If a player shoots a birdie or better he wins that hole (+); a bogey or worse loses the hole (-) and par halves the hole (0). The lost holes are subtracted from the won holes to give a final score.

Following a night of heavy rain and thunderstorms the course had surprisingly recovered sufficiently by Sunday morning to provide a very good surface for the competition

Scott narrowly won the cup on countback from Paul Daniel who also registered an impressive score of +7. They finished four shots ahead of Jack Brown who headed a group of five players all on 3 up.
