SWINDON TOWN are trying to fend off the attentions of Championship side Rotherham United who are chasing Massimo Luongo.

Town are believed to have rejected a £600,000 bid for the star midfielder who has just returned from the World Cup in Brazil where he was on the bench for Australia but failed to get any game time.

Town initially took Luongo on loan from Tottenham Hotspur the season before last, then signed him permanently last term for £400,000.

It is believed that Rotherham’s £600,000 offer would leave Town with relatively little profit due to a sell-on clause for Spurs.

Swindon chairman Lee Power rates Luongo’s value at £1m.

Luongo played a part in Town’s 5-2 pre-season friendly victory over Wessex League outfit Petersfield on Tuesday night.

The goals came from Michael Smith (2), substitute Will Randall (2) and striker George Barker who is coming back from injury.

Town are now two from two in their warm-up games having beaten Swindon Supermarine 3-0 in their first run out.
