The Neals topped a strong field of home and away competitors on countback with an impressive 40 points.

Blanche is a Ciren member, Mark plays at Lilley Brook.

The all-Cirencester team of Pete Stone and Christine Clark were unlucky not to win the main prize on countback, but were rewarded by being the best home team with 40 points.

Blanche also won the Ladies’ nearest the pin competition on the 13th green.

President Gordon Robbins used his well- honed golfing skills to win the equivalent men’s nearest pin competition on the 18th hole.

Winner of the best visiting team category was Tony and Andrea Williams from Mendip with 38 points. Past club captain John Hall and his guest Pat Righton from Broadway won the mixed team prize with 36 points. The Neals, like any other team could win only one prize.

July Medal

MITCH CAUNT came up with the best gross score of 72 among the 73 entries for the July Medal played in near-perfect conditions but that was not enough to get him on the rostrum.

Division One was won by Peter Shepherd with an excellent gross 76 (net 67) followed closely by Chris Nevin with 74/68. Third place went on countback to Evan Drayton 77/69 edging out young Ali Carter 75/69.

Evan also managed a brace of twos on the second and 18th holes on a day which saw 17 twos recorded.

Division Two honours went to Brian Paxton with a gross 81 (net 67) from Jack Brown 81/68 and the wily John Corris 82/70. Division Three saw Robbie Simmonds – the overall winner – reap the rewards of playing most evenings by registering a gross 83 (net 67) to win by one shot from the improving Stuart Stancombe (86/68) and Godfrey Cottrell (85/68).

B Team

Cirencester 3.5

Broadway 2.5

CAPTAIN Jonathan Wells led the home team to a narrow 3.5-2.5 victory over Broadway which was an exact reversal of the score in the away match played in early May.

Once again Paul Simmonds played superbly in the lead match which resulted in a victory for the home side by 1 up.

A similar margin was achieved by John Hall and Paul Jenkins which was followed by a comprehensive 5&3 win for Lewis Palmer and his partner Howard Jones.

The match victory was won when Chris Berens and Russell Cameron secured a well-deserved half.
