LECHLADE seconds couldn’t complete a weekend double over Westbury as they lost by 34 runs.
WEPL Wilts 2nd XI Division
Westbury II 276-1
Lechlade II 242-8
Westbury posted a first innings score of 276 thanks to an unbeaten partnership of 180 between Michael Wainwright and James Cotteril who both finished not out 98 and 104 respectively.
In reply Lechlade made an encouraging start before Jacob David-Ward was run out for 21 with the score on 63.
David Novais (43) and Charles Offord (38) carried the fight to Westbury but the chase faltered with the departure of Novais.
Tight bowling and scoreboard pressure brought about a Lechlade collapse before a quick-fire 71 from Nigel Vaas briefly threatened to swing the game back towards Lechlade.
The hosts' brief hope of victory ended when he was dismissed caught and bowled by Cotteril who following up his unbeaten century finished with 5-25 to round off a good afternoon for himself and his team.
