JAMIE COOKE, the former World Junior Champion, has just missed out on qualifying for the men’s final at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships at Székesfehérvár in Hungary.
Cooke, from Shipton Oliffe, made his customary brilliant start in the pool, clocking a 200m freestyle time of 1:57.72, which was bettered only by Poland’s Remigiusz Golis.
But he lost ground in the fencing, winning just 10 bouts to drop to ninth and slipped further down the leaderboard in the run/shoot.
He finished 18th in his group with a points total of 1,105 and only the top 12 were guaranteed a place in the final.
