SWINDON put up a brave fight but could not add to their Elite League points tally as they slipped to a 51-41 defeat at Wolverhampton.

Swindon Robins 41

With Wolves heat-leaders Tai Woffinden and Piotr Pawlicki in inspired form, the Robins could not quite claim a consolation point in an entertaining clash at Monmore Green.

It was a frustrating night for Alun Rossiter's men as they fought tirelessly only to narrowly miss out on a point.

"We gave it a good go but we had no answer to their top two," said Rossiter.

"Woffinden and Pawlicki were superb and although we gave it our best shot they made the difference in the end.

"The play-offs are still our aim and we aren't giving up yet, that's for sure. It would have been nice to come away with a point but there are still plenty more points up for grabs."

Fresh off the back of their Danish Grand Prix heroics, Troy Batchelor and Peter Kildemand battled hard for solid contributions.

They struck a huge 8-1 in Heat 6 to launch their side back into contention after a slow start – yet that proved Swindon's only race win.

Fellow heat-leader Nick Morris similarly fought hard for little reward as he paid the price for some slow starting, while Aussie compatriot Dakota North largely struggled as he fell twice in his opening two rides.

Down at reserve Steve Worrall continued his flying form to top-score with a tremendous showing, and Simon Gustafsson also ended a solid night with a classy race win.

WOLVERHAMPTON: Tai Woffinden 13+2, Piotr Pawlicki 13, Jacob Thorssell 7, Ty Proctor 6+1, Ricky Wells 5, Joe Jacobs 4+1, Tom Perry 3+1.

SWINDON: Steve Worrall 11+2, Peter Kildemand 9+1, Troy Batchelor 8+2, Simon Gustafsson 6+1, Nick Morris 4, Dakota North 2, Nathan Greaves 1.
