DAGLINGWORTH'S international triathlete Steve Yates finished second at the Cotswold 113 Triathlon – a Half-Ironman event at the Water Park which attracted 750 starters.

Yates, now sponsored by Ride 24/7 in Cirencester, completed the 1.9km swim/90km bike and 21km run in a time of 4hr 09min 41sec to comfortably win the 45-49 age group category.

He was beaten only by Chris Goodfellow racing in the 35-39 age group.

Yates, who suffered a broken collar bone which wrecked his 2013 season, is rapidly regaining his best form.

He said: "The race went really well from the start. I exited the swim in fourth place then rode strongly to start the run with a 30-second lead.

"I held the lead until 15km into the run but could not manage to increase my pace to challenge Chris for the win.

"I'm delighted with second place having been out of long distance racing for more than 12 months while recovering from my serious bike accident."
