CIRENCESTER’S Alex Haynes provided some much needed lower-order resistance as Gloucestershire U12s rallied to beat Wales U12s by nine runs at the Bristol County Ground.

But another stubborn knock from Haynes could not prevent Gloucestershire U12s losing to their Somerset counterparts in the second of a half-term double header.

In the first of their two matches the U12s lost the toss and were put into bat at the county’s cricketing HQ, making 123 all out.

Playing with the main scoreboard brightly displaying names and statistics as the game progressed, a number of Glos players seemed to rise to the big occasion.

But impressive Welsh bowler Davies ripped through the middle order until Haynes (16) steadied the ship. In reply, Wales were going well until Gloucestershire spinners Josh Ball and Timmy Niblett polished off the visitors, leaving them nine runs short.

Two days later the U12s posted an identical score of 123 all out, with Haynes making 15, but Somerset reached their target with six overs to spare and six wickets standing.
