THE Long Drive European Tour is coming to the UK for the first time this weekend.

Some of the longest professional hitters of a golf ball in Europe will be descending on Heathfield Park Golf Driving Range & Teaching Academy near Oxford on Saturday, June 7 chasing a prize of 1,500 euros.

And if your length off the tee leaves your playing partners in awe, why not register for the separate competitions being put on for amateurs, juniors and ladies.

Heathfield Park is owned by the former Cirencester Golf Club PGA pro Geoff Robbins and his business partner Chris Kamara of Sky Sports fame.

It is fairly unique among driving ranges in that it extends to more than 400 yards – which might just contain the best efforts of former world champion Joe Miller.

British player Miller has won the first two events of the LDET this season in Belgium and Germany. Other players to look out for are fellow Brits Scott Beaven, Dan Konyk, Paul Slater, John McSloy and Lee Gauthier as well as CJ Hellstrom (SWE), Eric Houballah (FRA) and Andreas Persson (SWE). Admission for the general public is free.

On the afternoon of Friday, June 6, amateur players can take part in qualifying heats with the quarter finals at 6pm. The following day the UK LDET Championship show starts at 9am with the early rounds of the professionals’ knock-out competition.

Juniors and ladies will show off their talents at 1pm and 2.30 pm respectively.

The finals of the amateur, ladies and juniors competitions will take place at 4.30 with the big pro final due soon after 5pm.
