LECHLADE CC are desperate to take the field on Saturday against Biddestone after completing just two of their opening four games due to the weather.

Lechlade won both to lead the Glos/Wilts Division but captain Joe Breet is aware of the havoc that can be caused as a consequence of games being lost while other teams’ games go ahead.

“With the entire fixture list being lost last weekend no damage was done to anybody unlike a fortnight ago when Swindon managed to get a game in and win so picking up 10 points on us,” said Breet.

“Westbury also picked up four valuable bonus points on us that week in an abandoned game.”

Breet will be hoping the sun shines on Saturday when his side faces one of the division’s most consistent teams.

Biddestone have never finished outside the top four – and have been runners-up on five occasions – since their promotion to the division in 2005.

Biddestone are led by Dwain Perry, one of the most prolific run-makers in the division.

Perry has scored more than 5,000 league runs since joining the club back in 2004.

Perry and last year’s overseas signing Neil Bredenkamp are capable of posting big scores and Breet admitted: “We all know what Perry is capable of if we let him bat freely so we will be out to curtail and frustrate him as much as possible from the outset, along with Bredenkamp.”

Lechlade will be without their leading wicket taker Michael Craigs who is unavailable due to work commitments and opening batsman Oli Thornley, who is preparing for end-of-year exams at university.

Lechlade will be bolstered, however, by the return of all-rounder Tris Hawkes from a finger injury sustained in the opening week at Gloucester City and batsman Freddie Martin who is available for the first time this season.
