Gloucestershire Golf Union President's Trophy

Cirencester 4.5

Painswick 0.5

Last year Painswick, on their own course, inflicted a heavy and demoralising defeat on a plucky but inexperienced Cirencester team. However, this year the tables were turned in the competition that involves 10 players from each club in five foursomes matches.

Cirencester achieved an outstanding victory by 4.5 to 0.5 with Rodney Williams and young John Parsons rising to the occasion triumphantly to win 5&4.

Centenary Putter

SIMON MAY continued his excellent form and recorded a net 69 (gross 73) to win the Centenary Putter.

'The Centenary Putter competition was instituted in 1993 for both ladies and gentlemen. This year in extremely windy conditions, only two individuals managed to get below their net handicap score in both the ladies and the gents events.'

In Division One, May's net 69 deservedly won the competition.

Runner-up was the improving Andy Bell with a net 70 followed by another impressive score of 71 net by Jeremy Homan-Green.

Division Two saw Richard Hicks card a net 70 to pip Gavin Allen on countback.

One shot behind both with a gallant effort was Barry Waldron.

The ladies' competition was more clear-cut. Ann Fisher played a tremendous round, despite the extremely blustery conditions, winning outright with a net 69 (gross 81). Also on the rostrum were Emma Brereton (net 73) one ahead of Julie Clough in third place.

Brickhampton A 3.5

Cirencester A 2.5

CIRENCESTER'S efforts were blown off course in the tricky conditions as they lost 3.5 to 2.5 to promoted opponents Brickhampton.

The only consolation was the comprehensive one-sided affair at the top of the match, a 8&7 victory for Sam Tanner and Jon Sutherland.

Cirencester B 1.5

Brickhampton B 4.5

THE B Team were likewise defeated by Brickhampton at home.

Despite the presence of talisman Howard Jones, the outcome was a resounding 4.5 to 1.5 defeat.
