MAY is National Watersports Month and South Cerney Sailing Club (SCSC) is hoping to get as many people out on the water as possible as part of RYA Push the Boat Out initiative.

On May 31, the club at the Cotswold Water Park will be opening its doors and inviting people of all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at sailing.

SCSC will be one of the many sailing clubs and centres across the country taking part in the RYA 'Push the Boat Out' initiative.

Whether you’re completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or if you sail regularly, you could be one of hundreds of people taking part in sailing at open days, have-a-go sessions and fun events for all the family this month.

The club invites anyone from 8 years old upwards who would like a closer look at dinghy sailing, for a free sail in the safe hands of one of its experienced sailors (weather permitting).

Just bring footwear that can get wet, and a kagoule or waterproofs if the weather is damp – everything else will be provided free of charge.

Paul Kimmens, vice commodore of SCSC, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out. We are inviting the local community to come and see what the club has to offer and get involved - who knows, you might just get hooked! “

If you do, SCSC offers lots of RYA sailing courses for adults and children of all ages and abilities, as well as further taster mornings on July 12 and August 16.

RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell said: “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing venue, meet key volunteers and like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is and how easy it is to get involved.”
