ED GOODWIN, Cirencester Golf Club's head pro, made a brave bid to retain his Total Triumph Order of Merit but came up just one place short.
In the season-ending Total Triumph Strokeplay Championship at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club, Goodwin shot a fine two-round total of 143 (72, 71)which earned him the runner-up spot, two shots behind to Enmore Park touring professional David Dixon (74, 67).
It also cemented the same runner-up position for Goodwin in the Gloucestershire & Somerset PGA Winter Medals Order of Merit which was won for a second time by Giuseppe Licata of the Bristol Golf Centre.
Goodwin now joins Licata and third-placed Chipping Sodbury pro Robin Goodey as representatives of the G&S PGA in the county championship qualifier in September at Woodbury Park.
Naunton Downs pro Nick Ellis concluded his most successful winter season to date by ending up sixth.
