A STRONG turn-out in the Highworth 5-mile – a CAC championship race – saw 26 Ciren runners achieve excellent results.

A deserving race winner was Adrian Williams (27.35) followed in third by Bill Leggate (29.01) with Simon Fortnum (29.11) fourth, giving them the team win.

Wendy Nicholls (30.03) ran a dominant race and was once again winning lady.

There were numerous solid age-group performances with second FV45 going to Fi Collings (46th in 34.08) and third Sarah Gunn (50th in 34.23).

Along with Wendy they won the first ladies' team prize.

Shakespeare Half Marathon, Stratford upon Avon, 13.1 miles, road

DAVE BELL is having a fine season and won this popular 'half' in style.

He continues to improve and his finishing time of 1:10.46 is getting close to the CAC record, which has stood for many years. The race had 1,995 finishers.

Downland Challenge, 20 and 40 miles, multi-terrain

ED MORRIS came home a strong 39th but was disappointed to lose time on the second half. Keith Firkin was a battling 74th and then Karen Higuera, in her first 20-mile race, and Liza Darroch finished together in 142nd.

Rupert Chesmore, having run the first 20 with the ladies, decided to do another lap with a total altitude change of 4,000 feet.

Results: 1, Steve Paterson 2:18.31; 39, Ed Morris 2:54.31; 74, Keith Firkin 3:14.22; 142, Karen Higuera 3:45.54; 143, Liza Darroch 3.45.54. 195 finished.

40-mile results: 1, Simon Sikora, (Marlow Striders) 5:03.37; 87, Rupert Chesmore 8:09.09. 119 finished.

Two Oceans Marathon, Capetown, 56km, road

AN amazing run from Newlands RCC in Capetown to the Indian Ocean and back across Chapman’s Peak via the brutal Constantia Nek Hill, finishing at the University of Capetown. Martin Croucher likes a challenge in far-flung places and he finished in 5:16.56 and 1,710th place. The winner was Lebenya Nkoka (Lesotho) in 3:09.52 and a remarkable 8,000 finished.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km trails

BARBARA THOMAS (25.12) passed yet another remarkable milestone finishing her 100th Parkrun.

She was 96th and had yet another FV55 win. The winner was Damien Grace (18.18) and 361 finished.
