CIRENCESTER Hockey Club's U10 girls have narrowly missed out on a gold medal at the West of England Regional Finals.
The team had to settle for silver after losing out to Taunton Civil Service in a sudden death penalty shoot-out at the tournament held on the Millfield School campus in Somerset.
The three penalty strikers – Zara Mayer, Louisa Neal and Mimi Green, along with goalie Evie Henry – kept their nerve magnificently through not one but two shoot-outs.
Earlier, the entire team played with guts, determination and skill to come through the semi-final stage and get to the finals.
Goalscorers: Zara Mayer (4), Mimi Green (2), and Louisa Neal.
Half the team are still Year 4 and were generally playing against Year 5s, which reflects well on the coaching team at Cirencester Hockey Club and bodes well for the future prospects of this squad.
MoM: The whole team – Zara Mayer (capt), Evie Henry (GK), Mimi Green, Sophie Knight; Jessica Stephens, Louisa Neal, Alys Evans, Charlotte Mandefield, Anna Wateridge, Hermoine Brewster.
