A GLORIOUS morning brought out 414 runners at Lydiard Park – just one shy of the record turn-out – for the latest Swindon Parkrun.

Swindon Parkrun

This venue, along with 254 other Parkruns around the UK, offers a free, timed 5km run every Saturday morning at 9am and they are seeing an ever-increasing uptake by new runners.

This week’s Swindon Parkrun saw the return of two of Ciren’s London Marathon entrants, stretching their legs after their successful efforts last week.

Dave Moss, who has nursed a niggly knee for some time, ran the Swindon race in 23.29, finishing in 109th place, while Barbara Thomas finished 165th and ran her best time this year to finish in 25.19, giving her the FV55 win.

As the marathoners got back into the swing, Howard Ewan had a great debut Parkrun, indeed an excellent first 5km race, finishing 12th overall with a time of 19.03.

Howard, one of the Club’s promising new runners, is thoroughly enjoying competing for CAC and reckons that he can do even better as he was late at the starting-line, losing him the few vital seconds that would have taken him under the 19-minute mark.

The winner was Nyle Clinton (Swindon Harriers) in 16.02.
