They were at least boosted by the return of their leading goal-getter Blaine Fitzgerald who had missed the previous eight games.

And it was Fitzgerald who showed why he had been missed by netting both Purton goals.

Purton almost made a spectacular start when straight from the kick-off Johnny Cowley saw his effort from the centre circle hit the

New College woodwork.

Callum Hall, Fitzgerald and Scott Campbell all had chances while both keepers made excellent saves in an otherwise poor first half in which Purton lost skipper Marcus Hall with a knee injury.

The game improved in the second half and on the hour mark Purton got their noses in

front when a through ball from Cowley saw Fitzgerald shrug off his marker and slide the ball in.

Only a good save by the College keeper kept out another Fitzgerald effort but New College hit back and Purton keeper Devon Brown did well to smother a close-range effort.

In the last minute of the game, and with the College keeper up for a corner kick, Fitzgerald ran half the length of the pitch to chase a clearance and slot the ball in for a 2-0 victory which delighted the home supporters.
