AN epic semi final for the Stroud and District Combination’s Bill Adams Trophy, which ended in a 29-29 draw between Cirencester thirds and Tetbury, was decided in favour of the hosts who outscored their rivals by five tries to four.

Bill Adams Trophy semi final.

Cirencester III 29

Tetbury 29

Tetbury, playing up the slope but with the following wind, opened the scoring with a penalty from their MoM and fly half Tom Hurrell.

Cirencester, playing four father-son combinations, drove downfield and eventually fly half Steve Thompstone barrelled over under the posts before fluffing the attempted conversion.

The visitors slowly gained the upper hand with a couple of converted tries to lead 5-17 but as the first half came to a close a concerted phase of Cirencester pressure resulted in a try out wide for winger Craig Hughes.

Ciren came out stronger in the second half with young centre Archie Doyle scoring.

However, the visitors were allowed back into the game with another try of their own.

As the clock ticked down, the Cirencester pack camped on the opposition line and influential captain Chris Thorn powered over for a well-deserved try which scrum half Ben Thomas neatly converted on the final whistle to make the scores 22-22.

Tetbury took advantage of a charged down kick to post the first score of extra time when their pacy winger scored under the points for a converted try.

Just when Cirencester seemed too tired to rally,

Thorn broke free and rampaged up the middle of the field before flipping the ball inside to Gus Collyer-Bristow who outpaced the cover and touched down.

Cirencester's MoM Thomas again converted to bring the scores level at 29-29 and put Ciren through on tries scored.
