The Virgin Money London Marathon, 26.2 mile, roads

Simon Campbell, having battled with numerous injury niggles, crossed the line 300 places and an excellent seven minutes faster than last year. David Moss improved by more than 4,000 places and around 25 minutes after a winter of tough training and improvement.

Barbara Thomas, better known as the club's most prolific racer, improved on last year while Michael Thomas, who has struggled throughout his training with injury, was glad when the race finished.

Results: 1, Wilson Kipsang (Kenya) 2:04.49; 423, Simon Campbell (2:46.47); 18,139, David Moss 4:26.21; 30,337, Barbara Thomas 5:30.55; 34,584, Michael Thomas 6:30.58.

Woodchester 5km,

AT THE Woodchester 5km, a rolling multi-terrain run at a National Trust property near Stroud, Ciren’s Mark Sysum coasted to a comfortable victory.

A winter of structured training has enabled Mark to make a remarkable recovery from surgery and he completed the lakeside course in 19.16 ahead of 46 finishers.

Pewsey Vale Bluebell Run

DAVID WRIGHT’S training runs in Ciren Park paid off when he completed the 12km Pewsey Vale Bluebell Run to finish in third place, a remarkable result as David is a V50.

His time of 52.04, on this multi-terrain course, was close behind the winner, Ian Luke (50.19) of Poole Runners. 103 finished.

Manchester Marathon

AT THE Manchester Marathon, Rachel Barber-Brock was up against stiff competition. They pushed her to add to the string of PBs achieved this year and Rachel ran an excellent 3:05.55 to finish 296th overall as well as 16th lady and ninth in her age-category. Andi Jones won in 2:16.59 and 5,911 finished.

Swindon Parkrun,

TONY SHELBOURN, the sole Ciren representative at the Swindon Parkrun, continued to improve his recent Parkrun times as he aims at sub-20 minutes.

He finished 15th overall and first MV65 with a time of 20.29. 359 runners finished behind Alex Bampton (Cheltenham and County Harriers) who won in 17.04.
