Fairford 2
Malmesbury Vics 3
FAIRFORD TOWN’S hopes of ending the season in the top two of Division One West went with a 3-2 home defeat against Malmesbury Vics.
The visitors, who had taken 10 points from a possible 15 in their previous five games, advanced into a 2-0 lead thanks to first half goals from Matty Cooper and Ryan Welland, which put Gareth Davies’ side into the driving seat.
The response from the home side began with midfielder Dan Bailey finishing off a cross from the right to reduce the arrears. A mazy run from substitute Cameron McLarty set up the second goal, with the youngster beating three players before laying the ball to striker Alex Rudd who did the rest.
It was Malmesbury who had the last word with Chris Jackson heading home from close range 10 minutes from time to give the visitors all three points.
The defeat leaves Fairford needing maximum points from their final two away games to keep their promotion hopes alive.
