HOST professional Ed Goodwin recorded a home win as the Gloucester and Somerset PGA Medals resumed at Ciencester Golf Club.
He bettered par by two in his round of 68 to head home one of his playing partners for the day, Robin Goodey from Chipping Sodbury, by a single shot.
Pleasant spring weather and light winds were the order of the day at the Cotswold venue which didn’t give up birdies very easily to the local professionals.
Some awkward flag locations were found by the greenkeepers and subsequently only the leading two players managed to beat par.
Goodwin got off to an excellent start collecting birdies at the third, fifth and sixth on his way to reaching the turn in 32, three under par. His only bogey of the day came at the tough par 4 10th hole and regulation par figures for the remainder of his round saw him record win number six of an excellent winter season.
Triumph Order of Merit leader Giuseppe Licata tied for fourth and holds what appears to be an unassailable lead in the table with just two more medals remaining before the Total Triumph Strokeplay Championship at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club in early May concludes the G&S PGA season.
