GEORGE FIRTH, 17, produced a stunning effort of 28.48 seconds in the 50m Backstroke at Ponds Forge, Sheffield last weekend to become the first ever Cirencester SC member to qualify for the British National Youth Swimming Championships.

That event will be held at the same pool in August.

This is an outstanding achievement and just reward for George's dedication to training this year at both Cirencester SC and Swimpodium in Swindon.

Firth produced the qualifying swim after recent success in the Gloucestershire County Championships where he won seven gold medals.

He has the chance to qualify for the national 100m Backstroke when he joins up with team-mates at Plymouth's South West Regional Championships in May.
