THE new golf season at Cirencester Golf Club commenced in earnest on March 30 with the men's monthly medal, organised for the first time by the new competitions officer Mike Bishop (supervised, of course, by Ron Carroll).

The competition attracted more than 80 participants and was played on a glorious sunny and dry spring day.
The best gross score was recorded by the in-form B team regular Neil Herbert with an outstanding 74. However, Neil was beaten on count-back for the Division One net prize by Jonathan Cowley, who registered a fantastic 67.
Young Andy Leith grabbed third place with 69, again on count-back, from a rejuvenated David 'Hadaway Man' Findlay and the Welsh wizard Gareth Jones.
Division Two was also a close-run affair, with Neil Webster posting a remarkable net 66 ahead of Stuart Michaelis (68) and Bruce Clement (69).
Seven players earned a bonus by making a gross two on one of the par three holes.
