WITH the sides involving 13 reserve team players, Oaksey’s visit to table-topping South Cerney was always going to be a lottery. And so it proved with Oaksey more than holding their own in the first half.

Intelligent defending by the visitors restricted the home team’s scoring chances. Then in the 31st minute a Jake Pegler cross found Stuart Hudson who scored from close in to give Oaksey a one-goal lead at the interval.
The second period saw Cerney on top but a mixture of poor finishing, more good defending and two point blank saves from keeper Jordan Brooks (including one from a penalty) suggested that perhaps a shock away win was on the cards.
However, with 12 minutes to go, Adam Keslake equalised followed soon after by a headed goal from Mark Loxton.
Keslake’s injury-time goal made it 3-1 for the home side.
The win retains South Cerney’s slim chance of winning division one and shows that for Oaksey there is little difference between the strengths and abilities of their first and second sides.
