Taunton Town 1

Cirencester Town 0

During the first half the Centurions played into the hands of Taunton by continually sending in high balls for the taller home side to dominate.

Taunton also joined in this apparent competition to see who could send the ball furthest and highest.

With the home side winning all the aerial battles Ciren were relying on counter attacks.

The nearest either side came to scoring was when Taunton's Ben Carter advanced down the right side of the area to the byline and struck a shot which hit the outside of the post from an acute angle.

Then, three minutes before half-time, Nat Pepperell rounded Ciren keeper Glyn Garner in the area but Ellis Dunton got back to head away the goalbound effort.

Cirencester made a much more promising start to the second half without troubling the Taunton goal and the hosts eventually wrested back the initiative.

As the clock moved past 90 minutes, Taunton earned a corner after an aggrieved Ciren team felt they should have had a free kick in the build-up.

James Short took the set piece and Owen Irish, making a run to the near post, scored with a superb header.

With a number of difficult games ahead, Cirencester need to find their ‘shooting boots’.
