THE University of Gloucestershire is gearing up for an action-packed 48-hour celebration of sport and physical activity where local people – young and old – can take part in a range of fun activities and meet international and local sportspeople like five-time Olympic rowing hero Sir Steve Redgrave.

There will be a variety of workshops and taster sessions taking place at the Oxstalls Campus (GL2 9HW) at the beginning of the school Easter holidays (April 8-9) and up to 200 young people will have their hearts screened at the Cardiac Risk in the Young event as part of the Stop The Heartbreak campaign.

Players from Gloucester Rugby, Cheltenham Town FC Club, Gloucester City FC and the University of Gloucestershire All Golds Rugby League team will all be on hand, as will local adventurers Jamie McDonald, who ran 5,000 miles across Canada and his cousin Kevin Brady, who paddled solo along the 2,350-mile Mississippi River from source to sea in a 17ft canoe.

Highlights include a Q&A session with Sir Steve Redgrave.

Thirty-minute ‘Have a go’ taster sessions (at a level suitable for all age groups) will take place in activities like tennis, golf, table tennis, badminton, weight training, volleyball, cycling, kettlebell, zumba, Beat The Goalie and many more.

There will also be fundraising opportunities for the Stop the Heartbreak campaign with auction prizes which include memorabilia from Sir Geoff Hurst and Phil 'The Power' Taylor, along with afternoon tea and tour of the House of Commons.
