PURTON'S hopes of reaching their 11th Wiltshire Senior Cup final ended at Calne Town FC's ground on Tuesday when they could not hold current holders Melksham Town, writes Alan Eastwood.

Wiltshire Senior Cup semi final

Melksham Town 4

Purton 0

Melksham now go through to meet Bradford Town in the final.

The first half saw chances at a premium with Purton efforts from Marcus Hall and Steven May being saved, while Melksham had a chance cleared off the line.

Melksham got the breakthrough three minutes before the interval when Purton defender Jamie Richards was adjudged to have clipped the striker wide right on the 18-yard line after stumbling to clear the ball.

It was a harsh penalty decision and Melkham took advantage to lead 1-0.

In the second half Melksham took control and and added further goals on 49, 74 and 87 minutes.

Once again Purton were without regulars Ryan Child, Dave Gee and Blaine Fitzgerald but on the night the more experienced Melksham side, who play two leagues higher than Purton, were

worthy winners.
