THE three-lap course for the Gloucester 20 has become popular for athletes competing at the upcoming London marathon. Rob Forbes was first Ciren runner in sixth spot while Simon Campbell, 19th, training for London, battled with the unusually high temperatures.

Gloucester Twenty, 20miles, roads

Rupert Chesmore and Liza Darroch, more used to the longer distances, ran strongly and London-bound Barbara Thomas clocked up more useful miles.

Results: 1, Matthew Collins (Micky Morris Racing Team) 1:53.42; 6, Rob Forbes 2:06.28; 19, Simon Campbell 2;12.19; 244, Rupert Chesmore 2:58.38; 309, Liza Darroch 3:12.20; 419, Barbara Thomas 3:49.58. 444 finished.

Shakespeare 10km, Stratford upon Avon, roads

EVERGREEN David Wright (38.54) ran as fluently as ever to finish third and first MV55; Rachel Barber-Brock (41.48) had an excellent run to finish first lady and 11th overall. Andrew Leighton (37.19) won; 197 finished.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km park trails

BARRY SAMPSON (17.23) finished a strong third and first MV35. Gordon Jones (22.17) was first MV60 and Barbara Thomas (25.56) was second VW55.

The winner was Chris Reade (16.20) of Swindon Harriers. 364 finished.

A bevy of cross-country races in Charlton Park, Malmesbury produced great results for the seniors and particularly the juniors.

In the Children’s Muddy Mile, Ciren took the first three places with Tom Rowland (6.55), James Edwards (7.08) and Harvey Rowland 7.14.

They were followed by Phoebe Mathews (16th in 8.54), Jane Bailey (19th in 9:51) and Ben Bailey (23rd in 10.17). 31 finished.

In the Flying Monk 10mile XC, Peter Nunn (1:08.50), emulated fellow flier Eilmer, to finish sixth out of 84. Brian Cooke (1:04.04) of Wootton Bassett Hounds won.

Finally, Mark Edwards (41.22) was eighth out of 51 and third vet in the Fearless 5 mile; Paul Edwards (35.37) won.

Minchinhampton 10km road race

A LONG steep drop down off the Common and then the tough climb back.

Undaunted James Widdowson was pleased with 48th out of 398. Lorna Hetherington trains on hills and had a strong race and Chris Bevis also finished in the top half of the field.

Results: 1, Tomas Eisner (Cotswolds Allrunners) 35.27; 48, James Widdowson 46.21; 92, Lorna Hetherington 50.02; 169, Chris Bevis 54.35.

Carterton 10km, roads

COLIN TAPLEY finished 29th at this second running of the event and Ruth Fulford 171st out of 230 runners. Alex Speilman (34.14) won.
