BASSETT progressed to the last 16 in the National U17s Shield with a convincing 24-0 home win over Reading Abbey and now face the winners of the Camborne/Taunton fixture in the South West semi final.

A team that included six members of Bassett's victorious U16 county champions' squad went ahead after nine minutes with a Tom Fieldsend try. Jamie Towers added a second after 19 minutes before Fieldsend scored his second of the day three minutes later; Fieldsend also added two conversions.

Bassett's Scott Douglas finished off a fine move in the second half to complete the scoring.

BASSETT made it two from two in their Wiltshire Cup campaign with a convincing win over the combined Devizes/Melksham side.

The tries came from Harrison Pearson (3), Ethan Pearson (2), Dan Williams, Jake Huggins, Lewis McLean, Noah Clarke and Sam Heaphy. Rhys Floyd kicked four conversions and Sam Webber one.

BASSETT U16s ran in 11 tries in their first match under floodlights on Friday night at Ballards Ash to sweep aside their neighbours Swindon in a 63-12 win.

A hat-trick of tries came from Jake O'Neill with the other scorers being Edward Woolford (2), Elye Darragh, Matt Hayes, Matt Roberts, Michael Roshier and Tom Davies. Dan Sweeney added three conversions and Sam Haskell one.

Elsewhere at U14 level, Bassett ran out 24-5 winners at Melksham, while in a reverse fixture under floodlights Melksham U15s edged out Bassett in a high scoring 36-27 match which saw Bassett use 30 of their ever-increasing squad.
