THE last of a wet winter Oxford League Cross Country series ended with some excellent results for Ciren athletes.

CIRENCESTER AC and TRIATHLON CLUB

Oxford League Cross Country, Harwell, Oxon.

Dave Bell was second in the race giving him the series senior title and he led home the team of Simon Campbell (15th), Bill Leggate (23rd), Robbie Brown (37th), Jon Hiscock (41st), Mark Sysum (55th) and Keith Firkin (81st) to second place and a series second in Division One.

The ladies' teams also did well. Jenny Manners came in third lady overall and third in the series leading home the ageless Wendy Nicholls (fourth) winning the LV35 series crown and Nicola Denning (15th) to a first in Division One and a series third. The Ladies' B team of Sarah Gunn (20th, and second LV45), Jill Hadland (39th, fourth LV45 and third in the series) and Rhiannon Brown (46th) finished second in the Division Three team event to cement second in the series. The juniors were well represented by Phoebe Mathews, Kirsten Powell, Ellen Foster, James Edwards and Sam Svensson.

Reading Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, roads.

AT THIS popular half, Peter Nunn (624th) ran strongly to finish with a 1:28.18 and David Moss (2,401st), training for London, ran a 1:42.08. The winner was Scott Overall (Blackheath and Bromley) in 1:04.44 and 14,261 finished.

Silverstone Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, roads and circuit.

THIS half gives runners the chance to follow the wheel tracks of Vettel, Button and Hill and Martin Croucher, 206th out of 6,777, turned up the pace to go sub-90 with a 1:29.09. The race winner was Chris Thompson (Aldershot, Farnham and District AC) in 1:05.08.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km trails.

ON THIS fourth anniversary of the Swindon Parkrun, Barbara Thomas was announced winner of the points table for females for the last year.

David Moss (112th in 26.09) and Barbara (114th in 26.17) both took it easy as they were racing again as part of their London Marathon training. Tony Shelbourn (21st in 20.41) was first MV65.

Jeremy Coward (Chippenham Harriers) won in 18.17 and 312 ran.

Oxford Parkrun, 5km trails.

COLIN TAPLEY finished 12th and second MV50 in 21.15 and the winner was James Walker in 18.21.
