THE BEECHES have become something of a bogey side for Poulton since they beat them heavily three seasons ago – and the pattern did not change on Saturday.
Cirencester and District Div One
Poulton 1
The Beeches 3
Beeches started the game strongly, pinning Poulton back for the first 10 minutes before Poulton began to create the better chances, although being unable to capitalise.
Just on the stroke of half-time Beeches went in front with Dan Gudger prodding the ball home in a goalmouth scramble.
Poulton started the second half the stronger but again failed to find the net and after 55 minutes Beeches went 2-0 up thanks to an own goal when Ray Prior sliced an attempted clearance into the hosts' net.
With Poulton chasing the game gaps started to appear in their defence and the pacy Gudger found a way through to put Beeches 3-0 up.
Hard working Poulton did pull a goal back through John Dawson in the 73rd minute but they could not find the net again.
The result put a dent in Poulton's title hopes but all is not lost as there is still a way to go yet.
