ED GOODWIN, the Cirencester Golf Club head pro, lost a little ground to leader Giuseppe Licata in the Total Triumph Order of Merit rankings, after the latest Gloucester & Somerset PGA Medal at Naunton Downs.

Goodwin could only shoot a five over par 76 whereas Licata's solid 72 earned him a third place finish behind two players who had just returned from a week's golf in the sun.

Former European tour player David Dixon, back from Spain, posted a one under par 70 which was good enough to pip Brean's David Haines, just back from Portugal, by a single shot.

On a bright and mostly dry and breezy day, Naunton Downs GC provided an excellent test of golf and the course has held up extremely well in the recent wet weather. Although not long in yardage terms on the card the exposed course plays much longer and adds it own unique quirkiness in places to really make the players think.

Dixon dropped an early shot to go out in 36 (+1), but a very steady back nine, seven pars and two birdies (the lowest back nine of the day), earned him victory.

Licata gained valuable points on the players trying to chase him down as the winter season comes to a conclusion in just over two months.
