POULTON closed to within a point of leaders CHQ Utd with this hard-fought encounter at Hatherop Park which got somewhat heated at times, especially towards the end.
CHQ had the edge in the first half although there was plenty of goalmouth action at both ends, but Poulton were generally over-hitting the ball with the wind behind them. Poulton came more into the game after the break and Steve Andrews put them ahead from the penalty spot on the hour.
CHQ came back to equalise after 75 minutes with a superb 30-yard strike from Troy Weaven, who had only come on as substitute 10 minutes earlier.
Poulton got the winner with five minutes of normal time remaining, when John Dawson was put through and calmly slotted the ball home.
