CHQ UNITED now have three cup semi finals to look forward to in March and April after progressing in the Alexcars Cirencester Senior Charities Cup at the weekend.

As the form book suggested, CHQ, who lead Division One of the M4 Karting Cirencester & District League, proved too good for bottom side Stratton Utd, winning 5-0.

The prolific Chris and Ben Saunders both scored twice and Peter Waugh was also on the scoresheet.

The team had already reached the semi final stage of the County Intermediate and Arthur Shipway Cups.

CHQ’s home fixture was one of only three scheduled  Alexcars-sponsored Senior and Junior Charities Cup quarter finals which survived the weather.

The other five ties fell to waterlogged pitches and they have now been rearranged for this coming weekend. In the Junior Cup, Down Ampney who have been struggling this season, came from two goals down at Ashton Keynes to win 4-2.

Alex King and Dan Shrigley had given Ashton the advantage, but Ampney went through to the semis courtesy of two goals each from Carl Prosser and Dan Read.

After their first league defeat of the season the previous week, Siddington Sports Veterans again slipped up, going down 1-0 at Lechlade Reserves. After a goalless first half, Lechlade made some changes at half-time which paid dividends after 55 minutes when Andy Wilson was on hand to convert Daniel Schofield`s low cross.

Both sides had opportunities to score in the remainder of the game, but a combination of poor finishing, good defending and some fine saves from both goalkeepers meant that Wilson`s strike proved to be decisive.

THE quarter finals to be played on Saturday are: Senior Charities – Lechlade FC 87 v Siddington Sports, Poulton v Real Fairford, The Beeches v Bibury Res. Junior Charities – CHQ Utd Res v Minety, Kingshill Sports v Oaksey Res.
