STRATTON Youth FC have recently taken delivery of a couple of substitute benches thanks to a kind donation.

Alastair Matthew, who passed away recently, left a bequest to be paid to a youth sports club in the Cirencester area.

His family were put in touch with Stratton Youth when Kerry Cowley of local funeral directors Cowley & Son contacted Standard Sports Editor Danny Hall.

Gordon Varley, the secretary at Stratton Youth, said: "By complete coincidence, I knew Alastair well, and attended his funeral.

"Alastair was well known in the local football scene, a referee, and also in his later years a member of the Cirencester League committee.

"It was a shock to me as I had recently spoken with him at Stratton Stores just a short time before his passing.

"We really appreciate the kind donation and the substitute benches are already in place in our paddock next to the main pitch where they will be used by our U7s up to U10s."
