MINETY seconds got back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory away against Devizes thirds.

Dorset & Wilts Div Three North

Devizes III 17

Minety II 24

The game was played in appallingly wet and blustery conditions. Minety started into the wind and found it difficult to kick the ball out of their half. At rucks and mauls, the visitors had the upper hand, but line-outs were a lottery, though Minety jumper Matt Chisholm made valiant efforts to steal what possession he could.

Devizes ran in two first-half tries and converted one, but a brace of tries from Minety scrum half Dellam Murray made it 12-10 at the break and kept the visitors in the game.

The tables were turned in the second half. Marshalled by their experienced fly half, the hosts managed a try into the wind, but with the weather at their backs, Minety added two themselves.

Nick Jones put in blazing 30-metre sprint down the wing to score the first and Morgan Lightbody took ball from a tapped penalty and crashed over from 15 metres for the second.

Jones slotted both conversions to clinch the game for Minety, though with hail beating down on their heads, both sides were glad to get back indoors when the final whistle sounded.
