POULTON came through a match played in extremely unpleasant conditions, with a strong cold wind blowing down the pitch throughout, and some heavy storms in the second half.

Cirencester League Div One

Lechlade 1

Poulton 3

Facing the wind Poulton started well and Rob Paget put them ahead after 15 minutes. Lechlade hit the bar with a well-struck free-kick soon after and equalised through Liam Moore midway through the half.

Steve Andrews restored Poulton's lead on 70 minutes but from that point Lechlade had most of the play and pressed hard for the equaliser.

As conditions worsened, however, with torrential rain, Andrews made the game safe with a third goal on 88 minutes before referee Dave Morecambe took the players off the field as the rain turned into a ferocious hailstorm.

Five minutes later, with the storm gone, the players went back on to the pitch to play out the remaining one minute and 45 seconds!
